Not only did President Obama win reelection with the support of 55 percent of women voters, the issues that are important to women also helped expose and defeat ignorance and to advance women into office.
Richard Mourdock, whose stupid statements about rape being God's will, was defeated in Indiana, a Republican stronghold. Todd Akin's equally ignorant comments about legitimate rape cost him the election in Missouri.
In addition to the Senate seats in Indiana and Missouri, three strong women were elected to serve in the senate, including Elizabeth Warren in Massachusetts, Kirsten Gillibrand in New York, and Tammy Baldwin, the first openly gay candidate, in Wisconsin.
Here's to the women! May we survive to the day when they will occupy at least 50 percent of all elective offices in the Nation.
